FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Karamoja Supercup is an annual sports and entertainment tournament in Kakamega County, Kenya. Since 2019, it has featured competitive football (men’s and women’s) and volleyball, along with music and celebrity performances—all centered on the theme “Using Sports to Empower the Community.”

The tournament begins in November and ends on 28th December each year at Samitsi Grounds in Malava sub-county, set against the scenic backdrop of Western Kenya and near attractions like Kakamega Forest and the Crying Stone.

The event hosts men and women teams across Kakamega County. Cash prizes have grown over time, with the latest football champions awarded KES 500,000 (men) and KES 300,000 (women) in 2024.

The event stimulates the local economy by drawing around 40,000 attendees, boosting business for vendors, hotels, transport providers, and retailers. Sponsors gain brand exposure, job opportunities emerge (security, logistics, vendor staffing), and it fosters community unity, tourism, and volunteerism.

Beyond the sports competition, the Karamoja Supercup features live performances by top Kenyan artists (like Khaligraph Jones and Mejja) and appearances from notable players/coaches (e.g., Mathews Ottamax, Robert Matano). It emphasizes gender equality, allowing both men’s and women’s matches, and blends culture, entertainment, and sports into a deeply engaging local experience.
